Our Story

Over 30 years of excellence in very high precision shooting

The beginnings of PGM Précision

The PGM Précision story started when, in 1991, the RAID, France’s elite police unit, was looking for sniper rifle capable of hitting a target with the highest accuracy on the first shot.

A self-taught French craftsman, Gilles Payen, developed a high-precision rifle in synergy with the RAID snipers, to be named Ultima Ratio, “final recourse” in Latin, in reference to the RAID snipers.

Called Omega shooters in reference to the last letter of the Greek alphabet, these snipers are the final recourse in the resolution of a critical situation when all other solutions have failed.

Still in service today in the RAID and many other elite units, the Ultima Ratio was a real success, leading two years later to the creation of PGM Précision. The name PGM was derived from the initials of the company’s 3 partners, Payen, Gonnet and Morier.
